Hi, I'm Marcia, a Visual Artist & Qualified Art Teacher from U.K.
Biography
I am a Leeds based multidiscipline Visual Artist & Art Teacher specialising in oil painting, inspired by cultural objects in Museums and music. I started my formal art education at Jacob Kramer College where I did a Pre-BA Foundation Course in Fine Art followed by a B.A Honours Degree and Masters Degree at Leeds Metropolitan University, where I studied Contemporary Fine Art Practices. While I was there, I won the Edna Lumb Travel Scholarship to Research Roots Reggae Music and Rastafarian Culture and Faith. I also play the guitar and create my own music to combine traditional and contemporary painting concepts with music and video.
Selected work - Artworks
Artist Statement:
My art practice is driven by my Rastafarian faith and explores the relationship between music and colour, taking inspiration from biblical prophecy and cultural objects and artefacts in Museums as well as The Rastafarian community in Leeds. Music is the central point and I try to transform shape, pattern, lyrics and sound vibrations into an array of colour. I see painting and musical notes as interrelated and a vehicle for alchemical reflections of colour, light, rhythm and sound. My aim is to create a platform for my art and cultural awareness using visual arts, video and new music technologies to engage and enlighten the viewer.
